One thing I noticed is that it doesn’t seem to catch the gears above 4. Okay I got the setup up and running today with the OBD data feeding into Track Addict. Track addict also stores a lot of data which can be very helpful to review between sessions. I've been using this setup for over a year and so far, so good.Īs a bonus, Track Addict will show predicted lap times and actual lap times as you drive which can be nice to see where you're at in the middle of a session. I've heard of people having issues with the sun overheating the suction cup when they leave them installed all the time. I only use it for track or autocross it's not mounted all of the time. If the suction cup gets crud on it, I just wash it off with water, let it dry, and it sticks right back on ok. It's got a sticky suction cup and I haven't had any issues with it falling off while driving. I don't remember exactly which mount I have but it's just a cheapie off of Amazon that is very similar to this one Track addict can remotely control external cameras like certain Go Pros but, as I mentioned above, I haven't tried that yet. I use a bluetooth OBD reader for the telemetry. The app is Track Addict (it's free) and the rendering program for the final video is called Race Render (also free). Yep, for the videos I linked above (and all the others on my You Tube) I'm just using my phone set at 720P HD. Are you just using a regular GoPro sticky mount on the helmet? I really would like to get the driver inputs as part of the video so I can see if I’m turning in too early/late, etc. I do data collection with app in the phone when I want it, often that's an overlay with friends. With the suction cup I also sometimes put it on the windshield as in first example below because can really see the course layout that way from the elevated perspective. This is not the newest and greatest GoPro, intentionally using older GoPro Sessions because the battery life is better. Now and then if having an issue with particular cone then I can pull that GoPro from my helmet and easily mount it with suction cup on the fender above the cone that I am hitting. Ultimately what I want to see includes the driver's perspective most of the time, and nothing short of having it mounted inches from my eyes is going to give that perspective. Eventually settled on helmet mounted GoPro as my favorite. I have tried just about everything, mounting to the car front and rear and numerous places in between, using my phone and various cameras. So you’re just using the app and your phone to record it all, no other cameras or anything? Do you happen to have a picture of the suction cup setup and know what mount it is? I’m always picturing the phone flying out or the whole thing coming off the windshield at the worst time. Nice… so maybe the basic solution is easier than I expected. Here's what my setup looks like on track: Īnd here's what it looks like for autocross: A lot of people suction cup go-pros to the outside of the car for autocross but I've never tried that. I mostly do track driving or time trials so I need to have tow hooks in and can't have a camera mounted there. I've seen a tow hook mount fro a go-pro for the ND but I can't remember where I saw it. I may try both next and do a picture in picture setup with the view from inside as the smaller picture. I've tried attaching the mount to the rear window for a view from inside the car but then the view to the outside is overexposed and you can't see much. I just use the Track Addict app on my phone and a suction cup mount on the windshield for a nice view out the front of the car. Anything like that for the ND? Recommended cameras or other gadgets? Thanks! Does anybody make a good camera mount? On my S2000s there was a camera mount that slipped in under the rear wind deflector and gave you a nice spot for mounting a camera centered on the windshield while also capturing a bit of the driver and steering wheel. Curious what you ND drivers are using to capture video/telemetry for autox.
